Cavity wall tie corrosion

Occurs when the metal tie holding the two leaves of brickwork together is affected by rainwater and rusts. Rusting makes the tie expand, forcing the courses of brickwork apart. This can, in some instances, cause the outer leaf of brickwork to fail and fall.
